Showcase Card Technique
Today I have the feature over at My Creative Time and I'm going to show you how to create a Showcase Card. I used the awesome Fly Me Away collection. There is an image set, sentiment set and die set. You may recall the circus tent with baby elephant card I made a couple weeks ago HERE. At that time I said I would try and come up with the tutorial once I perfected the technique. Here is my first version of the technique. Down the road, I'll share an A2 size card which may be a little tricky given the smaller size. This finished card when folded flat is 6" x 6" in size. You will notice that the front frame is smaller than the back on the easel. I did this so that when it's folded flat, it's exactly 6x6. If you want to make the front frame the same size as the back, you can. Just note that when it folds flat, it will be larger than 6x6. Of course, if you don't plan on putting it in an envelope, it doesn't matter! Please download the step by step tutorial in pdf format. The link is below the picture.

Seamless Tier Technique
I'm always on the lookout for cool and interesting techniques. Yesterday, while I was surfing the Pinterest boards for inspiration, I came across this awesome technique called a Seamless Tier Card. There is a tutorial by Julia Stainton HERE. I loved the look of the black and white with a little pop of color. I used the pretty Elegant Flowers and a greeting from the Little Phrases II stamp sets. Both sets are from Inspired by Stamping who incidentally have a sale going on right now HERE.
Following are the dimensions of the layers I used:
5-1/2" x 8-12" Basic Black, folded in half for card base
5-3/8" x 4-1/8" Shimmery White
4-1/2" x 3-1/4" Basic Black
4-3/8" x 3-1/8" Shimmery White
3-1/2" x 2-1/4" Basic Black
3-3/8" x 2-1/8" Shimmery White
Extra flower is stamped with black onto Shimmery White card stock then I used a sponge dauber to apply a base of Pink Pirouette ink and then added shading with Riding Hood Red ink. I cut out the flower and attached with dimensionals. The greeting is punched out with the Word Window punch and glued to flower. The ribbon is a retired Stampin' Up! taffetta ribbon in Riding Hood Red.

These sets go perfectly together! I created a layered doily by stamping and embossing 5 of the same doily on 3 different color papers. I used an iridescent ice embossing powder so it looks shimmery. These are the layers cut apart for layering:
Layer all of the pieces with dimensionals to define the layers. Add a jewel or pearl at the center for some extra bling. The sage colored background was stamped with one of the smaller doilies from the set. Ink up and stamp continually until the image is stamped off. This creates a multilayered background. The papers I used are from a First Edition Paper 6x6 pad called Summer Breeze.

Peachy Keen 3-D Challenge
This week's Peachy Keen challenge was to create a gift bag. All I noticed was the 3-D tag on our assignment and completely missed the gift bag part. So, IMAGINE this as a gift bag. LOL
I wanted to try something a little different so I modified an easel card to create this three dimensional circus tent and then I had the elephant coming out of the tent on a separate prop. Sorry I can't show you how to create this since I was completely flying by the seat of my pants and throwing paper at this thing until it stuck! If I were to redo this card, there would be a lot of things I would change about the props in the back. Perhaps a new technique for the future....
I handmade the tent with a few cuts and folds of designer paper. The elephant is a Peachy Keen Cottage Cutz die called Happy Go Lucky Elephant. Isn't he the cutest? The die set comes with 2 sets of eyes to add character. I cut out 2 elephants and layered them. This way, I could pop out the ears and trunk without the back showing through. Sponge the edges with gray ink and sponge the ears, cheeks and feet with regal rose ink. The pink on the toenails is pink pirouette card stock.
Want to get this die at a discount? Check out the Friday the 13th sale over at Peachy Keen. ONE DAY ONLY. 13% Off Storewide and a FREE stamp with all orders of $13 or more. Details HERE.

Inspired by Stamping Challenge
Today's challenge at Inspired by Stamping is based on a picture inspiration:
Recently a good friend of mine lost her husband. I wanted to make a special sympathy card and this picture inspired me to create the following:
I used the 3-D layered flower technique to create this pretty glittered flower. The flower is from an IBS set called Elegant Flowers. The greeting is from a new set called Heartfelt Greetings. I used some retired Stampin' Up! designer series papers. For the flower, I stamped 3 flowers on a light pink patterned paper and one flower on a yellow patterned paper. I cut out the pink flowers, cutting away different petals on each layer and then sponged the edges with regal rose ink and layered with dimensionals. The center piece was cut out and sponged with more mustard ink.

Inspired by Stamping Sneak Peek
The newest Inspired by Stamping stamps come out on Thursday and today is the first sneak peek of the sets. For my projects, I used the Tea Party 6x8 set and the Yummy Food Labels 6x8 set.
First, this box was created using the cool technique called a Slider Box. The tutorial can be found on Splitcoast Stampers HERE. When you pull the drawer open, a message slides out on the other end (as shown in the first picture).

For the top of box, I stamped the gourmet label with not quite navy ink onto coordinating designer paper then I cut out (removing outer oval on frame). I stamped another label with pear pizzazz ink onto pear designer paper and then cut out entire label. Layer the 2 pieces with dimensionals. Cup was stamped, cut out and attached with dimensional (jewel brad in center). For the top and bottom of box, I used the Nestabilities Label #8 die.
For this next card, I wanted to use this same pretty sparkly paper (from DCWV). The ribbon is silk seam binding from Stampin' Up. It looks so much prettier in person with all of the sparkly paper!
For my last card, I combined a greeting from each stamp set to make my own special greeting. The cupcake is a builder punch from Stampin' Up!. I inked up part of the "You're my cup of tea" stamp from the Tea Party set and stamped that first. Then I stamped the "Sugar" from the Yummy Food Labels set. This paper was all glittery as well. Too bad you can't tell from the pictures. I guess I was on a pink and blue kick this week!
Some of the other design team members have great projects to share as well. Check it out!
BLOG CANDY ALERT!
Would you like a chance to win one of the new sets? Joanna will be drawing a winner from sneak peek comments on Wednesday and Thursday. All comments on all design team blogs will be entered. 3-D Projects:
Mustache Man Punch Art
It seems that mustaches are all the rage lately, so I was excited to see the newest stamp set and die combo from My Creative Time. The set is called What's Growing On? It features a collection of fun greetings to go along with a coordinating die of different mustaches and a pair of glasses.
I instantly knew I wanted to create a fun punch art face. I was elated to see that the glasses fit the 2-1/2" Circle perfectly!
To make the man, here are the pieces you need to punch out:
2-1/2" Circle from Pink Pirouette (head)
2 Wings from Bird Builder in Pink Pirouette (ears)
Small Oval in Pink Pirouette (nose)
(2) 3/4" Circles in white (eyes)
(2) 1/2" Circles in Baja Breeze (eyes)
(2) 3/8" Circles in black (from Itty Bitty Shapes) (eyes)
Die cut 2 mustaches from chocolate chip card stock. Die cut glasses from black card stock. Round out points on bird wings for ears. Sponge edges of all pink pirouette pieces with Blushing Bride ink. Sponge edges of blue eye pieces with Island Indigo ink. Layer eye pieces and add highlights with unibal white gel pen. Add highlight to nose.
Glue glasses onto face. Glue eyes into glasses. Attach nose with dimensional. Glue ears onto back of head. Glue mustache onto face, slipping under nose. Attach hair to head with dimensionals. Draw line for mouth under mustache.
Head is attached to card using an Action Wobble Spring. To see how these move, check out my blog post HERE.

Pedestal Pop Up Technique
HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!
You may have recalled me sharing a technique last year called the Pedestal Pop Up. I originally created it for a CPC class HERE. This time around, I wrote the tutorial for Splitcoast Stampers. Check out my written tutorial HERE. The butterflies and greeting are from the Inspired by Stamping set called Butterfly Wings. The flower was created using a Nestability die with some Stampin' Up! punches. The video tutorial is embedded below.Tuesday, July 3, 2012
Tractor Time
I saw this new Peachy Keen stamp set and knew instantly who I was going to make a card for! My stepdad is a John Deere man and I thought I'd make a "cute" John Deere. I hope he doesn't think it's "too cute"!
If you come back on Thursday, you'll get to see all of the images in the PK-122 Funny Farm set. Until then, here is the sneak peek:

I call this style card a Modified Tri-Shutter. I originally shared this technique HERE. All of the designer papers and embellishments are from the July Peachy Picks paper kit from Peachy Keen. I love paper piecing, but boy, is it time consuming! I think it took me a good 2 1/2 hours to make this card!

Slider Kids
happy happy joy joy! It's time for more Peachy Keen Stamps to come out! This month is a real doozy! Not only is the Stamp of the Month set a real beauty, but the other add-on sets are fantastic and the Peachy Picks Kit is perfect!
Today, I'm going to show you this little slider card I made with the July Stamp of the Month set. I also used papers from the Peachy Picks kit. I can't show you the goodies until Thursday when they officially come out, but if you come back here, you'll get to see all of the images. They are truly wonderful! Be sure to head over to the PKS Blog to see all of the other fantastic projects by the design team HERE.
For the slider card, when the slider is pushed down, the little kids are hiding behind the fence. When you pull the tab up, their heads pop up. This technique is detailed on Splitcoaststampers HERE. I modified it so that instead of a message popping up in the front, the kids pop up instead. It's so super easy, give it a try!
Supplies:
Peachy Keen July 2012 Stamp of the Month set
Peachy Picks paper kit
Woodgrain embossing folder (for fence)
Pink pirouette, so saffron, chocolate chip, shimmery white card stocks
Bashful Blue, Blushing Bride, More Mustard, Regal Rose, Black ink pads
Unibal white gel pen (for eyes)
1/2" Circle (for hands)
