12 Days of Christmas

Just had to drop in one more time to share this cute project for the holidays

Barbara is making another holiday door display.  Check out her 12 days of Christmas owl display if you need some more hooty goodness!

Taking a holiday break

Hi all, I will be taking a holiday break for the rest of the month.  My next Peachy Keen challenge will be in the new year. I won't be posting anything to my blog until the new year.  I have a lot of projects on my plate over the next two weeks and won't have time to surf the net for daily inspiration.  Please check back with me in the new year.  I am working on a new Valentines class and the next issue of Papers & Pixels as well.

I wish all of you a very happy holiday season and a wonderful new year.  Looking forward to sharing so much with you in the new year!

Hello everyone!  I am excited to join the creative staff of an online magazine called Papers & Pixels.  My first article is in this month's issue which came out today!  The magazine is free to subscribe and is full of fantastic ideas for paper crafting and digital scrapbooking.  Please subscribe today! http://www.papersandpixels.com/

For my article, I created this cute little candy cane mouse punch art.  I'm doing things a little different for this and posting a downloadable pdf instruction file that you can print for reference.  The download link is below the picture.  Thanks!

Ginger Girl Candy Cane Box

I'm home with a sick child today, so I thought I would play with my new gingerbread die cuts from Peachy Keen.  This one can be found HERE.  Peachy Keen has a great sale going on (a different promotion every week this month!).  There is a sale of 10% off + 99 cent shipping through midnight tonight!

I love these new chipboard die cuts.  They are perfect for dressing up gift packaging, tags, scrapbook pages, cards and ornaments.  For my ginger girl, I painted the frosting pieces with white acrylic paint and then dipped them in dazzling diamonds glitter while the paint was still wet.  I sponged the edges of the gingerbread piece with creamy caramel ink then stamped the face using the Snow Cuties 1 1/8" stamp set (PK-501) and added highlights to the eyes with a uni-bal white gel pen.  Add regal rose ink to cheeks. Punch a 1/2" circle out of crumb cake cardstock and trim into an oval for the nose. Sponge nose with creamy caramel ink.  Attach nose to face with dimensional.

Punch half of the medium oval at the edge of the polka dot paper,  then line up the 1 3/4" circle over the punched hole to punch the dress top.  Punch half of the wide oval then line up the 2 3/8" scallop circle over the punched hole to create the dress skirt.  Glue the dress top to the back of the skirt piece. Punch the small heart out of red cardstock (I used a glitter coated paper) and mount at the neckline with a dimensional.  Glue dress onto body.  Glue frosting pieces onto body.  Punch 1/16" hole on each ponytail and attach small red corduroy brads.

For the box, I used an acetate box from HERE.  I filled the box with Bob's sweet stripe candy sticks.  The candy stripe sticks come in a box of 15 sticks for 88 cents at Walmart.  The candies look like THIS.  The box at Walmart is blue and should be located near the holiday candy.  13 sticks fit perfectly in the box.  To decorate the box, cut snowflake print paper 7" x 1 1/2" and score at 1/2" on each side.  Clip the ends of each piece and fold up the sides to form an open top box.  Make 2 of these and slip onto each side of the closed box (don't glue onto the box or you won't be able to take them off to get the box open).  Tie a blushing bride poly ribbon around the box to keep the decorative sides on.  Attach ginger girl to box with dimensionals.

For tag, stamp the greeting from Stampin' Up! Got Treats set in real red onto white cardstock. Cut out and mount onto pink pirouette cardstock.  Mount onto scrap of snowflake print paper and clip top to create a tag.  Attach small heart with dimensional, punch a small hole at top of tag and attach to box with silver cording.

Gingerbread Treat Pouch

For our Peachy Keen Let's Face it Fridays Challenge #6, we were challenged to use a paper bag in a fun and creative way.  I was a little stumped and then I saw this great idea on Beth's blog to sew a lunch sack into a treat pouch.  Her instructions to make the pouch are HERE.  I was happy to get out my PKS Snow Cuties 1 1/8" (PK-501) stamp set and make some little gingerbread people.   Please be sure to jump over to the PKS Challenge site and check out the other great DT projects HERE.  If you have some PKS face stamps, play along for a chance to win a Cricut cartridge and stamp set!

Stampin' Up! punches used:
Ornament in creamy caramel - head
1 1/4" Circle in creamy caramel - body
3/4" Circle in creamy caramel- hands
Modern Label in pink pirouette - sign
Designer Label - polka dot print sign back
Small Heart in real red

Supplies needed:
creamy caramel cardstock
pink pirouette cardstock
real red cardstock
shimmery white cardstock
polka dot print paper
MFT ric rac die (frosting)
black ink pad
chocolate chip ink pad
regal rose ink pad
white Americana paint writer sprinkled with dazzling diamonds glitter
uni-bal gel ink pen
dimensionals
sponge daubers
paper lunch bag
sewing machine with white thread

Instructions:
1) Create paper pouch following the instructions HERE. I attached the polka dot print paper on the inside back of the pouch before sewing the sides together.  Sponge the edges of the pouch with chocolate chip ink. Die cut 4 strips of rac rac and glue to front.  Punch out 6 hearts and attach with dimensionals.

2) Cut the tops off the ornaments for the heads. Sponge the edges of all caramel pieces with chocolate chip ink.  Stamp Snow Cuties faces onto head.  Apply regal rose ink to cheeks and add highlights to eyes with unibal white gel pen.  Glue head onto top of body (at a slight tilt).  Glue body onto back front of pouch.  Attach hands to front of pouch with dimensionals.

3) Add dimensional paint for frosting and sprinkle with dazzling diamonds glitter.  Tie blushing bride poly ribbon for bow on head.

4) Cut 2 strips of pink pirouette 3/4" wide by 5" long.  Stamp greeting onto one end of strip.  I used the greetings from Peachy Keen Too Sweet to Eat (PK-412). Wrap the other end around a candy cane and pierce or punch a hole through both layers.  Attach a brad to hold loop together.

PKS Challenge #5 - Holiday Invitation punch art

Challenge #5 for the Peachy Keen Let's Face it Fridays (LFIF) was to create a holiday party invitation using our PKS face stamps.  I was thinking this would be the perfect time for a set of reindeer!  Please visit the PKS Challenge site HERE to check out all of the other wonderful projects by the rest of the design team.  If you have some PKS face stamps, you can play along on the challenge for a chance to win the Winter Frolic Cricut cartridge!!!  Written instructions for this card are below the pictures.

Reindeer Card instructions:

1) Using Stampin' Up! punches, punch out the following pieces:
3 bodies from the 2 Step Owl in Close to Cocoa -  HEADS
6 Small Hearts in Close to Cocoa - EARS
3 Medium Ovals in Close to Cocoa - MUZZLES
3 Bats in Creamy Caramel - HORNS
6 of the 1/2" Circles in black - HOOVES
1/2" Circle in glittery red - Rudolph Nose

2) Clip off the feet and horns on the owl pieces.  Sponge the edges of all cocoa pieces with chocolate chip ink.  For the horns, clip off the head and tail of the bat.  Cut away some paper between each bat wing point to create the top of the horns.  Cut in half to create 2 horns.

3) Glue a heart on each side of the head for ears.  Glue horns onto back of head.  Stamp the muzzle with the nose stamp from the Peachy Keen Tear Bear Face Parts (PK-139) stamp set.  Stamp the eyes from the same set on each face.  Add highlights to eyes and nose with uniball white gel pen.  Attach muzzle with dimensional.  Trim 1/2" red circle into an oval for Rudolph's nose and attach with dimensional.

4) Cut a small wedge out of each black circle to create hooves.  Apply a little highlighting.

5) For card base, cut 8 1/2 x 5 1/2".  Along the long side, score at 4" & 8".  The 1/2" flap will keep the card closed.  Add layers of choice onto card.  You could try a wood look paper to make it look like a wall where the reindeer are perched.  To keep the card closed, I used the crop-a-dile to punch a hole in the center of the flap and attach a jewel brad.  Then, punch  hole in the lower center of the card front and attach another brade.  Loop a piece of cording between the 2 brads.

6) Attach reindeer and hooves with dimensionals to front of card.  Tie taffetta ribbon on front.
